Beachville-Sweaburg-West Oxford Pastoral Charge
Sweaburg United Church

A Methodist Meeting House was established in 1865 just north of the present church. Episcopal, Methodist and Free Will Baptists joined together to use the frame structure. The present church was build in 1888. It was first the Episcopal Methodist, then the Methodist Church of Canada and in 1925, became the United Church of Canada. The cornerstone was laid by Sir Richard Cartwright of Ottawa, then Minister of Trade and Commerce. During the early 1950's the church was extensively remodeled with the seating being changed to allow for a centre aisle. In the late 1980's, an elevator, modern kitchen and handicapped washrooms were added.
