Ingersoll Christmas Parade 2001

By: Shirley Lovell

The Marshall of our Christmas Parade
Was Royal Legion's best,
Our own Jean Uncer proudly led
In full regalia dressed.

'Though weatherman had promised us
'Twould rain on our parade
Yet all went well, the parade was great.
The rain had been delayed.

The stirring sounds of pipe and drum,
And bands with marching beat,
Piano plays, while carolers sing,
As music fills the street.

On many floats rode many kids
From every school in town.
But some folks walked and led their dogs,
While some just like to clown.

A manger scene from Bethlehem,
Complete with eastern star,
And 'Loopty Looping' down route,
A micro mini car.

Lawn tractors that just love to race
Drew many curious glances.
Two tiny donkeys with their foals
Doing 'Donkey Dances'

Six riders pass on trusty steeds,
And teams with wagons too,
As pooper scoopers follow close
Scooping up the goo.

A wooden horse that wouldn't buck
Pulled a loaded sleigh.
No scooper needed for this beast,
Because it eats no hay.

Some ninety floats passed though the town
As streets were packed with folks,
Who came to wave and clap and cheer
And yell out silly jokes.

Our hospital would win first prize,
Though some may beg to differ.
It sported balloons and lively clowns
And super giant sniffer.

But eager kids had come to see
That fat man dressed in red
With sleigh pulled by his eight reindeer
The on that Rudolph led.

But Santa's sleigh has gone the way
Of Canada 3000,
And so he's stuck in a fire truck
For Christmas parade carousin'.
