An Ingersoll Adventure

By: Shirley Lovell

Where's Ingersoll? You've head them ask.
Its plain not many knew
Then Colleen Jones of CBC
Moved in with camera crew

Well all that changed, we're famous now.
We really ought to boast,
Since Colleen, who's been far and wide,
Likes Ingersoll the most.

On Friday, August twenty-eight,
Before the sun could peep
The folks flocked to Centennial Park,
Then bacon buns were free.

The morning started with a bang,
That echoes 'cross the land,
Then followed by the lively tones
Of our own Jazzy Band.

Dear Minnie Pearl, the scarecrow judge,
In usual tacky clothes,
Plum told Colleen hers was a bust.
It didn't scare the crows.

While perched atop a load of grain
Assisted by two hicks,
Colleen tossed the sheaves with skill.
You'd swear she's from the sticks.

She even helped to shear the sheep,
Just loved the calves, of course,
Alas, we fear she's lonely 'cause,
She even kissed the horse.

We found her playing in the mud,
Just like a seasoned potter.
No way that wobbly pot she made
Will ever hold much water.

The Mayor gave her token to
Remember our fair town.
I doubt her ears will soon forget
Three Criers were around.

She bravely climbed the water tower,
The highest we have built,
They led the piper's parade, but wore
A western style kilt.

She visited the blacksmith shop
And hammered on some steel,
While tapping toes and flying feet
Stepped to the fiddlers reel.

The Elm Hurst chef made Colleen drool.
With food prepared to please.
She eve claimed, without a doubt,
We make the finest cheese.

We're grateful to the CBC,
Whose coverage east to west,
Has shown to all Canadians,
Out town outshines the rest.

From mellow tones of Francis Street
To auctioneering call,
The best adventure Colleen found
In here in Ingersoll.
