LIFE IN THE CLEARINGS: Early Immigration and Settlement
This program explores Ontario's pioneering period and subsequent
development, by examining the settlement and growth of Norwich Township.
The program begins with the arrival of the first Quaker settlers from
New York State in early 1800's and follows the development of rural
and town life into the early 20th century. Like all tours it includes
hands-on activities and plenty of opportunity for student participation
- black smithing, old-time woodworking, even building a large-scale
model log cabin.
Available Spring & Fall

A TIME TO WORK AND A TIME TO PLAY: Work & Recreation
This program is similar to LIFE IN THE CLEARINGS, but includes a 20
minute segment on early music and entertainment. The program includes
songs and tunes of days gone by, performed on jaw harp, harmonica,
button accordian, wooden flute, and a variety of other antique
instruments. Early sound reproduction equipment (gramophone, roller
organ) may also be demonstrated.

TIS THE SEASON: Christmas and Wintertime Traditions
This program explores the traditions and pastimes of the Christmas
season as well as giving a glimpse of the realities of getting through
the winter in early Ontario. Much of the time is given over to hands on
activities and play, including skittles, crokinole, stereoscopes,
marble games, and a magic lantern show. At this time of the year the
museum always features wonderful displays of its large collection of
vintage toys and games. This program is a lot of fun! It can also be
presented in a condensed form as an in-school presentation.
Available from late November until the winter holiday.
