Click on
Click on
Double click on Sounds and Audio Devices
Select the Sounds tab
Sound scheme: is set to Windows Default
In the Program events: field, scroll down to New Mail Notification
In the Sounds: field, you will find a number of available sounds, many of which are already assigned.
Select a sound and test it with the
button

Should none meet your satisfaction, click on

When the Search Results window opens, click on All files and folders (Do not use Pictures, Music or video)
Locate the field for All or part of the file name:
Type in *.wav
Click on
When the search is completed, right click on one of the wav files and select Play
When you have located a suitable sound, take note of its Name and the In Folder where the file is located
Return to the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window and click on

When the Browse for New Mail Notification sound window opens, set the Look in: field to the same as the In Folder previously recorded.
Click on the Name of the file you previously recorded
Click on the Preview
to test.

Note: You can create your own sounds or search for sound files on the Internet, but, they must be wav type files. Save them in My Documents\My Media and use the above procedures with Browse for New Mail

| Open an E-mail in OE
Click and drag your cursor over the text you want to save
Right click and select Copy |

| Open OOo Writer
Right click anywhere within the text area
Click on Paste
At this point, you can work with OOo Writer to reformat the text, change font and size, add data and graphics.
You can also open another E-mail and using the same Copy procedures and
Paste it to this document.
All E-Mail from a particular Sender or Subject can be copied and pasted into the same document
Save the document with a recognizable file name in a location such as My Documents\My E-Mail for fast future reference.
Delete the original E-Mail if you wish to save Hard Drive space.

101 - Outlook Express - Make/Copy a Business Card
|
Due to the many Spam, Adware, Virus checkers and OS (Operating Systems) at many levels of revision, this procedure as documented in OE Help and on the Internet is very dicey. i.e. don't use OE Help to Make a Business Card, you'll be wasting your time...
This is a procedure to create your OE Business Card using OOo (OpenOffice.org) and OE Stationery.
- Open OOo Writer
- Click on Format and select Page...
- Select the Background tab

Pick a Background color
-
Click on the OK button
- Type in your Name
- Type in your Address
- Type in your Phone number
- Type in your E-Mail address

etc.
Select text and use the Format bar to change Font, Font Size, Colour, Position etc. AND you can add a picture/icon

Click on Insert
-
Select Picture, From File...
- Resize your Picture
- Click on Format and select Anchor, As Character
- Click on File and select Page Preview.
- Click on Close Preview
Make adjustments as per personal tastes by repeating the above steps

To make a Copy of your Business Card for OE, you must have a My Business Cards.odt file already created by OOo
- Open OOo Writer

Click on File and select Open... Ctrl+O or Recent Documents and select My Business Cards.odt

Click on one of the cards
-
Click on Edit, and Select All Ctrl+A
- Click on File and New, Text Document Ctrl+N
- Right click on the blank page and select Paste
- Add colour and other changes to your preferences
- Use the Print Preview... for help with your final decision
Your OE Business Card is now ready for filing. (See below) |

Select Save As...

Set Save in: exactly as shown C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery

Set Save as type: as shown HTML Document (OpenOffice.org Writer) (html)

Set the check mark V for Automatic file name extension

Type in your File Name: (with no extension) ex. My Business Card

Click on the Save button

Use your OE Business Card
- Open Outlook Express

Click on the small arrow next to the icon for
Create...
-
A menu will drop with all the
Stationery
options you have available.

Select
My Business Card
- Your New Message window will automatically open and be ready to complete your E-Mail

- If My Business Card is not present, click on
Select Stationery...
- Select My Business Card.html
- Click on the OK button
- Your New Message window will automatically open and be ready to complete your E-Mail

193 - Make a Business Card
| Open OOo Writer
Click on File and select New, Business Cards

| When the Business Cards window opens
Select the Medium tab
Set the Brand and Type fields and Sheet: button as shown
Click on the New Document button |

| A Business Cards window will open with a basic template layout for your cards. Ignore what you see.
Click on Edit and select Select All Ctrl +A
Press the Delete Key on your keyboard to clear the card
Start Creating
Type in your Name, Address, Phone number, E-Mail, etc
Highlight your text and adjust for Font, Size, Colour, etc |

| Click on Insert and select Picture, From File to add a logo/picture
A Graphics Format bar will automatically appear.
Your picture with 8 green dots will now show on the window
Click on the Wrap Through icon on the Graphics Format bar
Resize the picture by dragging one of the green dots
Your cursor will change to a 4 pointed arrow when you move the mouse pointer over the picture (if the picture has been selected and the green dots are showing)
Click and drag the picture to anywhere on the card |

| Click on the Synchronize Labels button to transfer your data to the other 9 card locations |

Click on File and select Save Ctrl + S
Give your new file an appropriate name (My Business Cards) and store it where you can find it (My Documents\My Business Cards)
Before you do any printing on the business card paper stock, always print on regular paper in draught mode and black and white (to save ink).
Place your printout under or over a sheet of business card paper stock and hold them up to a bright light to see the alignment of text within the boundaries of all the business cards
You may have to make minor adjustments by adding/removing spaces or blank lines and repeat the above steps a few times before you reach satisfaction.
If the alignment is just too far out, it could be the setup of the page margins. See the section OOo Page Margin Setup below.
Change your paper
Change the printer properties back to normal and print your file
Click on File and select Exit

If you find it necessary to change your margins
- Click on Format and select Page...
- A Page Style: Default window will open
- Select the Page tab
- The Paper format should match the size of the material you are using
- The Margins (Left and Top) can be adjusted for final alignments

Menu. Displays a detailed explanation of any question you have regarding your OS (Operating System). Major PC manufacturers also use this to give you access to detailed information
unique to your computer.
Get rid of the logon screen during startup
If you’re the sole user of your PC, being prompted to log on each time your start your computer can be annoying and a waste of time. (Remember, though, requiring a user to log on may be an
important security measure, especially if other people can access your computer or if your PC is stolen.)

Click on and select Run...

Type control userpasswords2 in the Open: field, and click OK.
(Note the space between “control” and “userpasswords2.”)

When the User Accounts window appears, deselect the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer checkbox.

Click Apply.

In the Automatically Log On dialog box, enter your Username:
, Password: and Confirm Password:

| Q - When using Microsoft Outlook, many times images will only appear as icons at the bottom of the page. How do I view these images?
A - Right click on one of the icons, select Open it and click on OK. The image should appear in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
