There were only 9 of us who attended. We used the Main Activity Room and squeezed in with the remains of our Garage Sale held this past Saturday. Our cooks have finally learned how to make a super breakfast, it was the best deal of the day. 

The subjects covered were well received and it is hoped there are many who link with this web site, will get as much out of it as those who attended.

  6 - Make a Folder to Download Into

Make reference to 65 - Make a New Folder in My Documents 

Do you have a folder My Downloads in My Documents? - 

Make a My Downloads folder in My Documents

Now at any time you wish to download a new file, make a new folder in your My Downloads folder in your My Documents folder.

26 - Add/Remove Icons From the Desktop  
Minimize all open applications (Winkey +D)
Right click on the open Desktop
Select Arrange Icons By 
Select Show Desktop Icons to turn off or turn on your Desktop Icons.

To remove individual Icons from the Desktop
Click, hold and drag the selected Icon to the Recycle Bin.
Release the mouse button to drop the selected Icon into the Recycle Bin

 

30 - Move Between Multiple Open Programs

 

Here are 2 ways you can perform this procedure.
  1. Click on the application button on the Task Bar
  2. Hold down the Alt key and toggle the Tab key to select the application to display

 

 47 - Downloading Files from a Web Site  
Internet Explorer

This is an example of downloading a file from Adobe for their Acrobat Reader. 

When the download begins, click on the Save button

  1. Save in: should be set to My Downloads
  2. Make a New Folder
  3. Name the New Folder appropriately
  4. Click on Open
  5. Click on Save

Note the Security Warning - If you're not familiar with the web site, click on Cancel.

Mozilla Firefox

When the download begins, set the Save to Disk button and left click on the OK button

  1. Save in: should be set to My Downloads
  2. Make a New Folder
  3. Name the New Folder appropriately
  4. Click on Open
  5. Click on Save

 

 

51 Internet Explorer - Place Web Site Addresses or URL's into Excel or Word  
At any time you wish to save a web site address into a word processor, spreadsheet, e-mail or whatever, it must be active before you do this procedure
Hilight as shown by dragging your mouse pointer over the address.
Right click on the address and Copy
Switch to the document where you wish to save the address 
Right click on the cell or line where you wish to save the address and select Paste
Place at least one space or new line after the address to activate the address.

To verify the procedure has been done correctly, click on the copied address and it will connect you to the website 

 

 60 Internet Explorer - Web Site Won't Allow you to Extract Graphics/Music/etc
This is rather a sneaky way of going through the back window.

Open Disk Cleanup

Click on OK

Select the Disk Cleanup tab

Click on OK

Click on Yes

(What your doing here is removing all the old crap off your system and making the search for your wanted info with fewer files)

Reconnect to the web site you wish to "borrow" files from.

Open Disk Cleanup 

Click on OK

Select the Disk Cleanup tab

Select Temporary Internet Files

Click on the View Files button

Select any one of the folders displayed

Click on Tools and select Folder Options...

Select the View tab

Set Folder Options Advanced settings: as shown

Click on the OK button

Click on Type to sort the files in Type order.

You will have to go through your images (gif, jpg, avi, wmf, ppt, etc) and audio (wav, mid, wma, mp3, etc) to find what you're looking for

If you don't find what you are looking for, click on Back and select another folder and repeat the above procedures.

 

 

65 - Make a New Folder in My Documents
Click on
Right click on My Documents
Select Open
When the My Documents window opens, click on Make a new folder

When the next My Documents window opens, it will display New Folder highlighted in blue
Type in your New Folder name
Press one of your Enter keys to complete the procedure

 

 

 

Tips of the Month

1. To bypass your Welcome Screen

Click on

Select Run... 

Type in control userpasswords2 

Clear the box for Users must enter....

3. Need more magnification? Click here. A very good tool to have for those pages without a zoom feature.

Open Questions & Answers 

Q - My New Message e-mail window has lost its Send button from the tool bar.
A - Right click on a blank spot on your Toolbar and select Customize... to open the Customize Toolbar window.

In the Available toolbar buttons: select Send

Click the Add -> button

Click the Move Up or Move Down buttons to place the Send at any point you wish to see it on the Toolbar

Now would be a good time to investigate all of the Available, Current toolbar buttons: to Add -> or <- Remove and the Text and Icon Options: to set up your Toolbar to your personal preferences.

Click on the Close button.
