75 Outlook Express - Attach Many Files to Email at Once
Consider the following before attempting to do this.
Does the receiver have the capacity with his ISP to except large files? Some accounts are limited to monthly quotas and will reject your email.
Is the receiver on dial-up? An upload from your hi-speed connection could be an excess of 10 times to download for the receiver. (1MB of data would take a dialup connection 3 - 4 minutes to receive on a good day).
Does the receiver have the ability to read/convert the files you wish to send?
Its always best to communicate your plans prior to the final sending of the email with the attached files.
Multiple documents. spreadsheets and pictures can be zipped together and saved as a single file and sent via email.
The receiver can unzip the files and deal with as required.

Click here for just a free Zip Reader if you have no need for a Zip Creator.

FreeZip Click here to Download FreeZip v1.4.9 (250kB) which can compress (create) and decompress (read) zip files.
Pictures in jpeg format are already compressed and will not benefit further attempts at compression. Pictures can be resized (with a loss of resolution) and then sent in multiples via email. If there is a very large quantity, Picasa would be a good go between.
Pictures in gif format can be reduced by approximately 15 - 20%
Word documents and spreadsheets can be reduced by approximately 30%
Adobe pdf files can be reduced up to 40%

Click here to download. Does just about everything M$ does and doesn't cost anything. You can also create pdf files, however you need the following to read them.

Click here to download a good pdf reader. It's less than 3MB compared to more than 22MB for Adobe Reader 8.

76 Outlook Express - How to Backup and Restore Blocked Senders List and Other Mail Rules
Losing your email messages, address book, mail and newsgroup settings, mail rules, blocked senders list and other settings in Outlook Express can be avoided if you know how to back up this important information and you do it on a regular basis.

Hard drive failures, viruses, and accidents can erase this information or make it unrecoverable, however with a backup plan you can avoid a disaster such as this and keep your important email communication alive and well.

The best solution is to save this backup information to an external media such as a CD-R.

Getting a new computer? This operation can save you many hours of typing and with fewer mistakes.

Due to the complexity of this operation, great care must be taken as your computer could be wasted.

Click here for the M$ article describing how to back up and restore your Blocked Senders list and other mail rules in Outlook Express 5 and later. If multiple Identities are in use for Outlook Express, these steps need to be repeated for each Identity, and the backup data segregated accordingly. This will facilitate restoration of each Identity.

Important This task contains steps telling you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base

107 Outlook Express - Move Message Rules to Another Computer
Searching the Internet brought me back to the same info as Item 76

114 Outlook Express - Print Message Rules
At this time, I believe there are only 3rd party suppliers (no freebees) to perform this operation. M$ apparently doesn't believe it to be important enough to make it an option in OE.

140 Printer - Full Screen Print
There are times when it becomes necessary when something appears on your monitor and you feel it would be a good idea to have a copy for future reference. It could be an unusual picture, a diagnostic list to trouble shoot, maybe a recipe for dinner, an unexpected error, whatever, take a snapshot.

In the upper row of your keyboard and on the right side, press the Print Scrn key.
Open M$ Paint
On the Menu Bar, open Edit and select Paste  Ctrl +V.
At this point, it is necessary to decide whether you want the whole picture or a portion thereof.
For the whole picture, skip A) and go to B)

A)
On the Menu Bar, open View and select Tool Box   Ctrl +T
Left click on the Select button in the Tool box
When the mouse pointer changes to this hold down the left click and drag a rectangle around the material you want to save.
When the mouse pointer changes to this  right click within the rectangle and select Copy or Cut
Left click on File and select New   Ctrl +N

When the window opens asking you to Save changes ......, left click on the No button.
Left click on Edit and select Paste    Ctrl +V

B)
Left click on File and select Save as....

When the Save As window opens
Set the Save in: field to My Pictures
Type an appropriate name in the File name: field
Select Save as type: as a JPEG rather than BMP (+15 x larger) to save HDD space.

157 Uninstall a Program
There are only two ways to Uninstall Program XXX in Windows. (The 3rd method leaves too much crap in the gap)

Before you venture into this territory, its best to begin by investigating the Properties of Program XXX
Left click on
Follow to Program XXX
Right click on Program XXX and select Properties
Many M$ Programs will indicate it's a shortcut, where it originates but, fails to tell you where the program actually is.
For all other Programs, take a note of the Shortcut Target:
Close the Properties window.
Repeat your way back to the folder (if it had one) with Program XXX
If available, left click on Uninstall Program XXX and follow instructions as you may have to reboot to complete the process.

If no Uninstall Program XXX exists
Left click on
Left click on
When the Control Panel Opens
Double click on the Add or Remove Programs icon.
When the Add or Remove Programs window opens
Select Program XXX
Left click on the Remove button and follow instructions as you may have to reboot to complete the process.

When your computer has recovered, open Windows Explorer (Winkey +E)
Locate where Program XXX originated.
Delete any remnants remaining
If you can't find anything, then the Uninstall was successful

Note: Many M$ Programs require your Install disks to be mounted before an Uninstall can be initiated.

170 Win XP - Disable Update and do Manually
To do this is only asking for trouble down the line. There will always be something to distract you and Updates will be forgotten and it leaves your system open to new virus and bugs your Firewalls and Virus checkers have no control over.

If you really believe you can set a time clock in your mind to perform a check for updates at any time you so desire, give it a try. The hackers are out there who really enjoy putting people out of business.

See Item 178 for your options to set up Windows XP Updates

178 Win XP - Update Option
Since the 80's, M$ has never been able to do it right the first time. If they had, Bill would be living on welfare. There isn't a software package I know of, without updates. New software off the shelf will generally check to see if you are online and check for updates before it allows you to use the program. Do not stop this update procedure.

Double click on

When the System Properties window opens

Select the Automatic Updates tab

Select Automatic (recommended)

Set a day and time you know when your computer is on and connected to the Internet.

Note: failure to keep up to date opens your computer to hackers and making it necessary to completely delete everything on your computer and reload all your Operating System and software programs AND download all their updates. All personal documents, pictures, etc. could be lost if you have no backup securely locked away.

181 Windows Explorer - View Your Pictures As A Slideshow
There are many programs available to do this for a price and also a number of freebees like Picasa. Windows XP has a Slideshow built in and for most, it does an adequate job to view your pictures. It will not automatically zoom a small picture but, it will centre it on your monitor with a black background. All large pictures will be resized automatically to the size of your monitor without cropping.
Left click on
Left click on
Right click on the first picture you wish to show
Select Preview
Press F11 (Function Key 11)
Sit back and enjoy, each pix will remain on screen for about 5 seconds.

To access manual control, move your mouse.

When the above toolbar appears in the upper right hand of your screen.
Move your mouse slowly over each button to allow a popup to explain what each is used for.
