WebChat 2002 Articles
A Very COOL Facelift
By Brett Walther and Meredith Maywood
Saturday, September 28, 2002

You remember COOL, right?

COOL is that cleverly titled on-line directory of Oxford County businesses and organizations that has been the subject of many WebChat articles over the past year. It's in the headlines again due to some cool-erm, I mean exciting-developments that are in the works.

The COOL Directory is now becoming part of a larger on-line presence, referred to as the COOL Portal. The COOL Portal, the first phase of which will be launched next month, is a web site that will provide access to government and community information relevant to Oxford County residents and businesses. In providing this information and a number of on-line services as well, the COOL Portal is ensuring that Oxford County is well represented on the web.

Up-to-date information on the development of the COOL Portal project is available at www.cooloxford.ca/portalnews. This web site features overviews of various Portal initiatives including the new Oxford County Tourism web site, expansion of the COOL on-line community directory, an interactive calendar of community events, and numerous mapping and data applications.

The COOL Portal News site also offers links to Portal features that are already complete, including RecConnect. RecConnect provides citizens with access to one-stop touch-tone phone and on-line registration for all Town of Tillsonburg Parks and Recreation Programs.

As the County of Oxford OnLine's Information Coordinator, Meredith Maywood encourages everyone to visit the web site and share feedback on the Portal's development. An on-line application form is available if users are interested in participating in discussion groups taking place in October. In these discussion groups, participants will review the COOL Portal web site and provide feedback on its content and layout.

Feedback and requests for additional information about the COOL Portal can be directed to Meredith at mmaywood@ocl.net, or by calling her at Information Access Oxford at 519-423-1928, extension 201.
