The Score Keeps on Ticking
Trevor Down
March 12, 2001
One of the newest sports channels on television is Headline Sports (also known as The Score). It is widely known as the sports network that never sleeps--it keeps the sports fan up to date on news at any time of the day on the "ticker," which is displayed at the bottom of the screen. It also shows highlights from the previous day's sports action from every sports league. Lately Headline Sports has been showing live events like its counterparts at TSN and CTV SportsNet.
Their site on the web, http://www.thescore.ca, offers the same type of coverage. Unlike the network, you can customize what gets updated on the ticker. If you do not want to see the latest basketball news in the NBA, then you can go to the options on the side of the ticker and change what information the ticker pumps out. There is also an option to keep the ticker on your computer's desktop, so you can work while the ticker is at the bottom of your screen.
At first glance, The Score.ca page can appear somewhat spartan. Scroll your cursor across the red buttons on the navigation bar to reveal menus under baseball, basketball, hockey, football and other sports categories to link to standings in addition to current and archived articles and media clips.
All the latest sports articles are provided. If a player has a good day in a game, then there will be a full story on it, similar to a story that you might see in the sports section of a major paper. Also, there are sections on the site to see the television schedule, or where you can participate in a number of national pools.
This site is one to remember if you want to be updated on the latest sports headlines to get the type of coverage that you could once only get by watching television.
