The Oxford County Library web site provides an employment section that is a great place for job seekers to begin an on-line job search. Job banks, classifieds and career information can be accessed conveniently and easily at http://www.ocl.net.

Simply click on “Find a Job” and you will find direct links to all local Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) job banks and many other job posting databases including Monster and Workopolis.

If you are targeting your search to the City of London you may want to check out the London Employment Resources link, a site with London area job banks, classified links and company job databases.

The “Find a Job” section provides links to many newspaper classifieds including The London Free Press and the Kitchener Waterloo Record.

Another great resource on Oxford County Library’s “Find a Job” page is the “Gateways” link. Browse through the Canada WorkInfoNet (HRDC) site. It is a searchable directory of Internet links to hundreds of other sites, which offer services and information about the job search process.

If you need assistance with your searching skills there are many tips provided under this section to assist you when using a search engine to look for job postings. Effective use of keywords in search engines or on gateway sites is crucial to finding the right jobs or information you're looking for.

The “Find a Job” section also provides Internet resource links to information to help you
  • prepare for an interview,
  • network with others in your field and
  • investigate career options.
At the bottom of the “Find a Job” page click “links to help you in your search for employment”. You will find helpful links for career and aptitude testing, researching prospective employers, networking, writing resumes and cover letters, interview skills and other tips to assist in landing a job.

Want to learn more about internet and computer skills to assist in your on-line job search? From Oxford County Library’s main page (www.ocl.net ) click “Computer Services”. This section provides links to the courses & training available for the residents of Oxford County.

From this page you can also access sites offering FREE on-line self-paced learning. Click on “on-line” to bring up a list of links. Two of my favorites are:
  • www.actden.com/ - tutorial based training on Microsoft products
  • www.free-ed.net/catalog/itcat01.htm - Information Technology training material
If you need assistance on how to use the Internet to find a job we provide a FREE training session. The training includes
  • how to access job banks
  • effective ways to search for information
  • accessing company job posting databases
Training is held regularly at three locations throughout Oxford County.
