Gardening
March 11, 2000
Deb Schurink

Have you got the March Blahs? Can't wait until spring to get out and work in your gardens and flowerbeds? Well now is the perfect time to check out the World Wide Web (either at home or from your local library) and see what's out there for gardeners.

I have found many gardening sites on the web. If you are thinking of starting your own plans this year, or you want to know what plants are out there, the web is a great place to start. You can look up annuals, perennials, vegetables, garden decorations, and much more. I have found many Canadian Seed Companies who are listed online, for example, http://www.mackenzieseeds.com, http://www.stokeseeds.com, and http://wwww.icangarden.com.

If you go to these sites you will be able to look up a specific plant, get a complete description, usually a picture, growing conditions, sunny or shade, size, when and how to plant, etc. At some of the sites you can even order the seeds online and they will be delivered to you in the mail.

You can also request a catalogue from their web page. One nice feature at Mackenzie's is you can submit your city and get a listing of local retailers who carry their products. Some sites also have forums where you can chat with other gardeners.

Another site is http://www.gardencrazy.com. It is based out of Montreal. They have everything from planting supplies, garden ornaments, and seeds. If you register with them (free of course) they will send you a pack of wildflower seeds in the mail.

You could also check out http://www.canadian gardening.com. This is the web site of the Canadian Gardening Magazine. They have a complete listing of Canadian Garden Catalogues. You will find helpful hints and tips to grow the perfect garden or flowerbed. They also have free registration that will enable you to ask questions, get advice and share information.

So while you are anxiously awaiting for spring to arrive, why not check out some of the above sites, order some seeds, get your supplies, (your green thumb, of course), and your ready, set, grow!
