"A One-Stop Information Source"
July 8, 2000
Jessie Coffey

The Internet aims to make life simpler. Need information on travelling? Turn to the Internet. Need help planning a wedding? Turn to the Internet. Not to be outdone, the Internet also offers resources to help organize, and survive, a divorce. One of the most complete sites for this purpose is the Divorce Source (http://www.divorcesource.com).

The Divorce Source provides information on every aspect of successfully negotiating a divorce. The site has links to information on dealing with deadbeat parents, tax and insurance issues, bankruptcy, child removal, domestic abuse, mediation, and step-family issues, all of which can be accessed in a number of ways.

A research centre allows the user to read case law, case analysis, and general divorce information. Chat rooms and message centres allow site users to discuss questions and issues with others around the world who are dealing with the same situation. The site also contains a "Divorce Dictionary" to help those involved understand the "legalese" involved.

Registering on the site allows the user to develop an online calendar that will send electronic reminders of important details, dates, and meetings. Furthermore, the site offers the option of storing your information in a private online file. As long as you have an Internet connection available you can access your information, reducing the number of files and forms to be carried from one legal meeting to the next.

As one of the primary steps in a divorce involves finding professional help, the site allows users to choose their province, and then their county, in order to access a database of divorce professionals in the local area.

The site also hosts an online store where an individual can search and order a variety of resources and texts, much like ordering from Amazon.com or Chapters.ca. From marriage to divorce, the Internet offers information and assistance.
