With the New Year now in full swing, resolutions and willpower are being stretched to the limit. And the primary resolution made by most people seems to relate to attaining the ideal healthy lifestyle.
But after the leftover Christmas turkey has been transformed into a casserole and the last bit of fudge has mysteriously disappeared, it is sometimes difficult to tell what changes need to be made.
Wouldn't it be great to have your eating and exercise habits evaluated without paying for a personal trainer? Welcome to Phys.com, an online fitness and nutrition guide (http://www.phys.com).
Phys.com is an interactive web site that not only provides information on health and fitness, but also enables the user to input his or her data and receive personal feedback on an appropriate diet, fitness regime, and potential health risks.
The left column of the page provides links to the interactive elements referred to as the calculators. The user is asked to enter a small amount of personal information such as gender, height, weight and age. The program then assesses factors such as nutritional needs, fitness, and ideal weight.
After performing the preliminary steps a user is able to access the Phys Food Database by following the "Weight Loos" link. The Database is an interactive element that allows the user to document the food that has been consumed on a given day, and then suggests where alterations and improvements might be made. Sample menus are also provided to illustrate that eating better doesn't necessarily mean eating rice cakes.
The services provided are rounded out by a number of articles, question forums, and links to further information.
It is important to remember that Phys.com is in no way a substitute for professional or medical advice. It is, however, a good place to start an investigation of how to make the lifestyle changes that will help you stick to your resolutions.
Helpful Hint: The Phys Food Database can be time consuming so it is helpful to jot down a list of what you have eaten over the course of one day before attempting to fill out the questions.
