Wrestling Goes Online
Trevor Down
December 4, 2000

More and more people are becoming fans of pro wrestling. As a result, several different organizations and many wrestling programs for television have sprung to life. The leaders in wrestling television programming are the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and the World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

On the Internet, there are many web sites that an average wrestling fan can check out to find a ton of information about their favorite organization or wrestler. From what a wrestler's finishing move is to their real name; it is all online.

The main wrestling sites are the web sites that are run by the organization itself. However, http://www.wwf.com and http://www.wcw.com only focus on the information from that specific organization. They do not often give any information on the wrestler's history with other organizations. These sites do feature some information about news within the organization, but the information given is usually short and you can learn more from an independent wrestling web site.

However, the official sites do have advantages. They provide a profile of almost every wrestler on their talent roster and sometimes feature links to a wrestler's personal web site.

On the WWF site, there are links to the company's related promotions, such as their football league, the XFL. On both sites, there are also places where you can purchase merchandise or participate in a daily poll on the different happenings within the organization.

For some sites that give a wrestling fan a more in depth view of news in the wrestling world, there is http://www.2xzone.com, and http://www.thewrestlingwire.com, both of which give updates on almost all the latest news in the wrestling business.

There are also reports from some pro wrestlers themselves, talking about the wrestling business, and what they are going to be doing next. The site at http://www.canoe.ca/SlamWrestling/home.html, provides a Canadian view on wrestling as well as providing interviews with many of the top stars from today and the past. It also features the latest columns from ECW announcer and Winnipeg resident, Don Callis and Canadian wrestling superstar, Bret Hart.
