Small Business & the Internet
September 18, 1999
Ian Barton
As technology and the Internet advance many small business owners and employees are puzzled about what they can do to keep up with the information age.
If you have been wondering what you might do to get your business started on the web, read on!
If you have a computer with an Internet connection at home or at your business, open http://home.netscape.com/netcenter/smallbusiness/. This page is a great start to beginning your online presence. It will take you step by step through the process of getting an e-mail address, creating a web page, hosting your web page, and other helpful subjects.
If a computer with an Internet connection is not available at your workplace you can stop by your nearest branch of the Oxford County Library. If you are unsure as to where that might be, phone the headquarters at the Ingersoll Library at (519) 485-2505 for more information. Computers are available at any of the 17 branches throughout the year during open hours.
Ian's Computer Tip: In planning for your small business to become an online presence you may want to talk to someone in a related field that has experience with creating a web page.
Also, spend some time surfing the net yourself-or ask your customers to do so-and decide what type of site appeals to whose searching for information about business comparable to your own.
