E-Greetings
November 13, 1999
George Stock

Greeting!

It's fun and it's free! You can send greetings by email from a myriad of Internet sites to mark any occasion or event.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. This week is Chemistry Week; next week will be Nurse Week. Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the United States were on Nov. 11, Baha'u'llah Day Nov. 12, and Universal Children's Day Nov. 20. Celebrate by sending an email greeting card to appropriate friends and relatives.

Recognize a birthday or graduation, lift someone's spirits, express romantic intentions or share some humour with email greetings. Each message can be personalized with individual comments and on some pages, colours, fonts, and text can be changed to individualize the cards.

Two sites in particular have a wide variety of free cards. Bluemountain Arts, http://www.bluemountain.com, is probably the best-known web based greeting card source. It has about 125 categories and 100 holidays, each with a number of cards available. The cards and instructions are simple and thumbnails can be transformed to full size very quickly.

123Greetings.com, http://www.123greetings.com, has more buttons on the front page. It not only includes more colour on the cards, it is possible to change background and text colours on the cards. This feature makes the editing function slightly more complex tha the Bluemountain site but it sis still very user friendly.

More sophisticated cards are available from Hallmark Cards, http://hallmark.com. However, pages and cards tent to take a little longer to load.

Linkage to about 45 different electronic greeting card sites, including many with photographs, is available at Sunflower Creations, http://www.freeyellow.com, providing the surfer with plenty of variety.

Sending free email greetings to friend s and family is a fun and thoughtful way to brighten someone's day or make a relationship blossom. Who says computers and the Internet have to be impersonal?
