Digital Photography

Have you ever wanted to take pictures like those you see in the magazines? Well, the new technology of digital cameras has made taking professional pictures a snap!
A digital camera is very similar to the camera you may be using now, except instead of film it uses a disk or media card. This eliminates the continuing cost of film!
With this technology, you can also view the pictures you take prior to developing them, thus saving you developing costs for pictures you may not want to keep. You can delete these unwanted pictures from the disk immediately, so space is not a problem.
Uploading your pictures onto you computer can lead to interesting and artistic experiences. You can alter your pictures in many ways-changing anything from a subject's eye colour to the subject itself! You can even choose to have your pictures printed in colour, clack and white, or both.
All of this does not come without a cost, however. To have a complete photo lab in your home you will need a fairly fast computer, a photo quality bubble jet or laser printer and an editing program. And don't forget the camera. Digital cameras currently cost between $100 and $1,500.
Sound a little pricey for something you have not had the opportunity to try yourself? Contact the Thamesford Public library this week and arrange a time to try your hand at digital photography.
Mike's Computer Tip: A great program for viewing digital photographs you have taken yourself is Lview Pro, available as a free download at http://www.downoload.com. For this program, search under Multi-media Design in the Image Editing category. Your computer should be equipped with WinZip to download from this site, where an excellent help tutorial takes you through the process step-by-step.
