Downloadable Audio Books / NetLibrary Troubleshooting FAQs
Why don’t I get the "Welcome to Oxford County Library’s eContent Collection" screen which allows me to create a free account?
- Your computer may have anti-virus or firewall software which blocks our authentication process.
- NetLibrary uses the referring URL (HTTP-referer) to authenticate that users are from Oxford County Library. Many firewall packages (such as Norton Internet Security, for example) have the ability to block referring URLs.
- Turning off the security software may allow you to access the Netlibrary screen with the heading "Welcome to the Oxford County Library eContent Collection", and create a free account.
- If you are using a firewall (either software or hardware), you can create a rule that allows HTTP-referers for the NetLibrary and OCL websites. The way you create these rules varies from vendor to vendor so you will need to contact the vendor of your particular firewall in order to learn how to set things up correctly.
Can I download a Netlibrary audio book to my Macintosh computer?
- No. NetLibrary/Recorded Books digital rights software will not allow you to download to your Macintosh computer.
Can I play a Netlibrary audio book on my iPod?
- No. Netlibrary/Recorded Books does not have access to Apple’s proprietary software. The downloadable audio books will play on various mp3 players that support protected wma files.
Can I use a removable drive to transfer the downloadable audio book to another computer?
- It is possible to download electronic audio books to a removable drive (also known as USB drive, jump drive, data stick, or flash drive) and to use the removable drive to move the file to another internet-connected computer.
- Note: The computer to which you wish to move the downloadable audio book must have a connection to the Internet, so that the file can verify your licence to listen to the book.
- The destination folder for audio book file will be "My Documents" or some other folder that you choose on the local computer. Once the download has been completed, you may move the audio book file to a removable drive by:
- open the destination folder (My Documents or the other folder you chose)
- click only once on the file name from a computer. If you click twice, you open the file and start the licence (i.e. the 21 day loan begins) and you cannot move the file to another computer and have it work. If you accidentally do double click, just delete the file and re-download it.
- either click on the "Move to" button and choose the removable drive for your destination or click on Edit then Cut then navigate to the removable drive and click Paste
- The file now is on the removable drive and ready to be taken to another computer.
- The first time you open the file on the computer to which you have moved it, you will be prompted to login to the NetLibrary site and acquire a licence to listen to the file.
- After acquiring the license you will be able to listen to the downloadable audio book or transfer the file to a portable device such as an mp3 player.
- At this point the audiobook can only be used on the computer from which the license was acquired.
Can I download the audio book to a CD and play it on my CD player?
- No. NetLibrary/Recorded Books digital rights software will not allow you to play a licenced downloadable audio book from a CD.
Can I Use a CD to transfer the downloadable audio book to another computer?
- You can use a CD in the same way as the removable drive, to transfer the downloadable audio book to another computer
