Registry
Office
The
current Registry Office was built in 1951-1952, on land
that had been leased by the Woodstock Lawn Bowling Club.
Inadequate space for the records and a need for more
and better furnishings for staff and persons searching
titles and examining documents led to its construction.
All
records affecting title to land including deeds, mortgages,
and wills, are stored in the registry office.
Effective 1 January 1968, the Province of Ontario took
over the Administration of Justice, including all Registry
Office operations. Since that date, this building has
been rented from the County
of Oxford. Registry Office Staff continue to register
ownership of property and to maintain the records for
posterity.
