The
Old Registry Office
This
is actually the second Registry Office since an earlier
office was located at the corner of Hunter and Light
Streets. Built in 1876, with additions in the mid-1950s,
this building originally had three vaulted areas:
-
the first section was for public use
- the
next area was the Registrar’s Office
- the
final space was used for the storage of land records
At one time the office of the Children’s
Aid Society and then a section of the Health
Unit were located in this building. Now the Oxford
Branch of the Ontario
Genealogical Society and the Oxford
Historical Society have their offices there.
