Children's
Aid Society
Begun
in January 1895 in Oxford County, the Children’s
Aid Society originally provided for the custodial care
of children. This responsibility has expanded to provide
child care, protection for children at risk, help for
unmarried parents, juvenile court assistance, family
allowances, and divorce consultations.
Lack of adequate consultation and office space in previous
quarters in the basement of the Court House led to the
construction of a new building to house the offices
for the Family and Children’s Services of Oxford
County in 1954, when part of the west jail wall was
demolished. The exterior styling of this one-storey
building is similar to that of the Oxford County Registry
Office on the east side of Court House Square.
